The
day ends with the most gorgeous sunset I have ever seen. The clouds
are changing from bright yellow to dark red within minutes, and
the back of the mountain glimmers in a stormy red - as if on fire.
The fog rising from the hills looks like smoke fueling the clouds
above.
At least 20 elk line the top of an eastern
ridge. Two are brave enough to work their way down, but are scared
off by the peculiar sight our horses.
Apparently, this must have been their grazing
ground yesterday, and they don't know what to do. After an hour
they go about their own ways again. At 9:30 p.m., we go to sleep
rather early for a change.
